STAGE 1:

Now we are onto the second try of our IVF. Saw the doctor in March and got all the paperwork and prescriiptions that are needed. Now we wait for my period!

During this wait we filled the prescriptions that were given to us. We had to get :
1 Enantone LP 3.75 mg injection
2 Gonal-F 900 UI boxes the dosage this time has been lowered from 225 to 150
2 Gonado CHO.ENDO ORG 5000 1 ampules to keep in the refrigerator

April 27th My period arrive at least one week early! I was so shocked and was sure it would be late since I've been wanting it to come! Now the problem, it arrived on a Saturday, no labs could take me for a sonogram till Monday, the last day I could start. The hospital did tell us if we could not find a lab they would do it Monday afternoon. Luckily we found a doctor right near the hospital.

April 29th: The sonogram went well, no cysts at all. So I headed over to the hospital with my results and I had no idea I was to bring all my paperwork which included the blood tests from before and my husbands current sperm test! Again luck shined on us as the lab had sent the sperm results to my doctor who sent them ahead to the hospital. I also had my Enantone shot that night.

Side effects of the Enantone: Honestly I haven't felt any this time. I was a little weepy at times but that could be normal as I tend to be weepy lmao. I did notice this time no brown blood, about a week after the shot I started to bleed again as if my period was back. And I am happy to report I did not gain any weight this time with the Enantone although I'm sure the Gonal f will make up for that lmao!

Our next appointment is June 13, 2006 to begin Stage 2

The clinic where the treatment is being held is the Hôpital de La Conception (Conteption Hospital), in the Centre de Procréation Médicalement Assistée (CPMA) division in Marseille, France. This hospital does on average 600 IVF treatments a year with a good success rate. The appointments are first come, first served. We have to be there on any given day between 6.30am - 9am. And whoever is there first is first and so forth. So there is never a set time, you come and you wait your turn. Normally you do not get out till 10.30am -11am. So it can be quite a wait.

June13th: Went and had my blood work and my scans this morning. All was good and was given permission to start my Gonal f at 150 tonight. The wait wasn't too bad today though as there were only four couples ahead of me and my husband when we got there. Had to of course register with the hospital again and get all the paperwork done with the nurses.

Side effects of Gona F: Well weepy at times and the gas started. I did not feel as heavy as I did last time, the lower dosage of medication really helped my body to adjust much better than it did last time. My appetite didn't vary as much as last time and I didn't notice a weight gain this time, thank god! I didn't need as many naps as before either, which was great!

June 20th: Went in for blood work and scan. Since I didn't have my regular doctor during my visits this time, I didn't get as much information as I did last time. The medication was taking things slow so my treatment would last much longer this time. The scan was good, told to continue on the medication till Friday and then return.

June 23rd: Went in for my blood work and scan, was told that the left was doing very well but the right needed to catch up. So medication was dropped to 112 1/2mg and was told to continue during the weekend and return Monday morning.

June 26th: Had my blood work and my scan. This time Dr C was there and I just love her, she is so nice. She told me that my left side was doing extremely well but the right was still at the medium size. She told me that I may have to continue the medication for one more day and have my trigger shot the next night. I had to go home and wait for the phone call to find out my next step.

Later that afternoon: The hospital just called, I am to stop the medication and take my trigger shot tonight at 9:30! yea! So this seems to be going on the same schedule as last time!

The trigger shot hurt my right cheek for at least two days!

June 28th: Egg Collection was today! We arrived around 6:45 and this time there was only me and another woman, so I was number one! We got installed in our little room and I got ready for them to come get me. At around 8am they came and took me over to the operating room. The nurses again were great. When they heard my American accent they of course had lots of questions but it wa nice because it relaxed me. Again I was on my chair in the Jesus pose and then I woke up later in the recovery room. They took me back to my room and my husband soon came in. They brought me medication right away. The pain was horrible, I couldn't even get up to pee. This time the medication did help some. I ate some lunch and my husband brought me a tea and a pain au chocolat that I requested. I was starving lol. After lunch I slept off and on and around 2pm I was definitely ready to go! One of the doctors came and told me they collected 11 eggs but one was already fragmented so they would try to fertilize the remaining 10. She told us that my husbands sperm was excellent, better this time than last even though there were less sperm this time they were more mobile than before. she said that was an excellent sign and not to worry.

We finally got to leave at 4pm, got our prescription for the pain killers and spasm medication and headed home. The walk up the stairs wasn't too bad this time. I relaxed on the sofa and ready one of my Jane Austen books and slept off and on. Reg went and got us McDonald's for dinner and we watched a film. Since I slept off and on so much during the day I didn't go to bed right away.

Side effects of Egg Collection ( EC ): The day after EC and I have to say I feel great! There is stil a bit of heaviness and I need to stop trying to overdo things, but the pain is no where near as bad as last time! I didn't even have to take pain medication today. This is proof that I had way too many eggs last time. I just hope that the call tomorrow morning will be good news: Come get those eggs in! Today I wlll just relax and lay around.

June 30th: Egg Transfer Ok the hospital called us at 7am, right out of a lovely sleep although we did have the alarm set too :) I was told to be there at 10:30 am. Same as last time, we arrived at the lab side of the hospital and talked to the doctor who actually did the "mixing". We were told that the two going in were very, very "pretty". Here is the diagnosis of our eggs:

  • 11 eggs collected
  • 9 eggs fertilized! YEA!!
    • 1 egg was fragmented upon collection and thrown
    • 1 egg fragmented later and was thrown

So nine out of eleven, that's not bad:

  • 6 eggs matured
  • 4 of those 6 were too advanced to be frozen so were thrown
  • 2 of the "prettiest" were transferred to me and one of those just better stick!

Again I wasn't upset that the four had to be thrown and couldn't be frozen, if this doesn't work, we have two more tries.

Same procedure as last time, small private room, on table, chewed my spasm pill, spread the legs and the sperm were inserted. Got my prescription for teh Progesterone and told to take it easy. The Progesterone was an egg inserted vaginally once day till the pregnancy test.

Now the dreaded two week wait! Actually my test isn't until July 15th because the 14th is a holiday, I just may freak!

Find out how my 2WW went!
